PROCLAMATION BY MAYOR JIM SUTTLE, MILLION FATHER MARCH DAY

EVERY CITY ACROSS AMERICA -
PROCLAMATION BY MAYOR JIM SUTTLE
Whereas, according to the Black Star Project, children whose fathers take active roles in their educational lives earn better grades, enjoy school, and are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college; and, Whereas, the Million Father March is a nation-wide initiative of the Black Star Project to organize fathers to take their children to school on the first day each fall; and,
Whereas, over 550 cities and 800,000 men are expected to participate in the Million Father March in 2009, setting an example for others to follow; and,
Whereas, in Omaha, Black Men United has organized a Million Father March for the students attending Mt. View Elementary on their first day of school; and,
Whereas, on behalf of the citizens of Omaha, I thank Black Men United for organizing an event that raises awareness about the importance of parents playing a positive role in their children’s education.
Now, Therefore, I, Jim Suttle, Mayor of the City of Omaha, do hereby proclaim August 17, 2009 as
Million Father March and Take Your Child to School Day In Witness Whereof, I have set my hand and caused the Official Seal of the City of Omaha to be affixed this Seventeenth Day of August, Two Thousand and Nine. Jim Suttle, Mayor City of Omaha |
